Student Comments about the Class or Instructor

The material was very challenging, especially at an accelerated pace, but also extremely interesting. The teaching style was perfect for this type of class. I am a graduating senior and have taken plenty of classes in my experience at Georgia Tech and this is by far one of my favorite. ~LG

One of the most challenging classes I have taken and I loved it. It would have been impossible if Dr.Dion had not clearly explained the material combined with the knowledge that we would be quizzed almost every day. I wish more professors would emulate her enthusiasm and teaching style.

I''ve never had an econ class before in my life, and I was a little intimidated by this class at first. However, professor Dion has a great way of breaking everything down to a basic level so that everyone can understand it if they want to. Have fun in Mexico!

Some people may dislike the idea of the participation grade (''too much like high school''), it really forced me to do the work, which obviously correlates to increased learning. In fact, I believe that this summer, in your two classes, I have actually completed more of the assignments and learned more than I did in my entire first year here. I loved how organized and structured your class was; it enabled me to better prepare for class and to follow and participate in lectures more easily. It also helped to encourage me to go to class since I knew how much I''d be missing if I didn''t. I like how you described the variable thing the first day of class and how we would fit the information into charts on the board. Some of the readings were really difficult and so organizing the material into tables and identifying the variables and their effects made the arguments easier to understand. And I think that the tests were effective and fair. By having all open ended questions, I think that we were able to express and you in turn could identify how much we actually did know about the information. Also, I like the questions where there are no definite answers, the ones that could be answered in multiple ways. These questions present us with the challenge of forming and expressing our own opinions about the material and then communicating our ideas in a logical and persuasive manner, thus teaching us more than the dilutedly simple ''if trade increases, income inequality decreases''; we really had to look at all of the relevant factors rather than just memorizing answers. And I wrote a lot more but the survey will only let me include 2000 characters so I had to delete it, but I''ll just write it into my survey for the LA Politics class.

Very well explanation of articles written by professors who love to ramble.

Professor Dion you were fantastic. You were so approachable and you really covered the information in a way I could understand. Your tests were long but I felt prepared and I appreciate your testing us on information you covered rather than obscure passages from the book. I would definately take another one of your classes and I''m so glad I signed up for your IPE course. I was interested and I feel so much smarter. I often watch the news now and am able to pick out the problems with a candidates economic policy objectives or a financial advisors advice. Thanks!

While this subject matter did not particularly interest me, Professor Dion made it as light and fun as possible. You could tell she was really trying to help us learn, and I am very appreciative of that. A wonderful professor.
